Investment Fund Code Lookup

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are not all of the fund prices available for importing into my Quicken or Money software?

A: Fund prices are supplied to Quicken/Intuit and Microsoft by CANNEX who relies on the fund companies to provide them with the information. At present not all fund companies have made arrangements to supply CANNEX but in most cases discussions are taking place. You may wish to contact your fund company directly to encourage them to supply their prices to CANNEX.

Q: What are fund codes(symbols).

A: Fund codes are used in the fund industry to uniquely identify a specific fund. For purposes of tracking a fund, some fund companies divide a similar fund by the currency and/or the sales fee(load) type. This same code is what your investment portfolio software uses to track the price of a specific fund.

Q: What fund code should I use - it looks like there is more than one for my mutual fund?

A: Mutual funds are sold in numerous ways, and depending on how you bought your fund, for example as a no-load or perhaps as a U.S. dollar fund, the fund company must track your units for future redemption. When there are multiple codes for a single fund you should pick the code for the type of fund you bought.

Q: I can't remember what type of fund I purchased - what do I do?

A: Pick any code for that fund, but for the same currency as you own (refer to the most recent statement that was mailed to you by your fund company or broker to check on the correct currency). If you select the "wrong" code, the only risk is that your holdings may be calculated using a price other than the one which appears on your statement. Before deciding to sell a fund you should always confirm the current market value for your fund with your agent.
