Investment funds (e.g. mutual,
segregated, pooled and labor sponsored funds) are investment portfolios in which investors
buy individual units.
CANNEX gathers, compiles and
distributes daily fund prices and distributions for investment fund products
offered by Canadian fund companies, banks, trust companies, credit unions,
savings and loan and life insurance companies.

The key to the accuracy
of this information is the way in which fund companies provide their fund values to
CANNEX. At the end of the day fund companies quickly generate a unit value to meet
early newspaper deadlines. Fund companies then perform additional checks and audit
procedures to determine a final unit value for the day. This final value is used in
their shareholder record-keeping system to determine the number of units purchased or
redeemed and in subsequent communication with unitholders. It is this final value
that is transmitted to CANNEX - electronically - as soon as it is available. This
approach ensures that organizations using information provided by CANNEX are receiving the
same values as those being communicated by the fund companies themselves.
CANNEX also gathers,
compiles and distributes historical fund prices and performance values for the same
universe of funds. The key to the accuracy of this information is the cross
verification of data. CANNEX has verified historical unit values, distributions and
performance values with the fund companies as well as with other sources of historical
information. Also, at month end all new values are verified with the fund companies
before being released to clients. This provides the fund companies with an
opportunity to review the data being distributed on their behalf.
