TORONTO, April 20, 2021 <\/strong>\u2013 The 2021 Alexander S. Melvin Leadership Award will recognize an individual in the financial services industry who has demonstrated inspirational and ethical leadership in 2020-21. The award is named for the highly-respected industry leader, Alex Melvin, who passed away in 2015.<\/p>\n

The award\u2019s organizing committee, which includes representatives from the Canadian financial services industry, trade associations, and Melvin\u2019s family, is seeking nominations for an individual who embodies Melvin\u2019s values and has made a significant contribution to the financial services industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex was an extraordinary leader who saw the importance of building a stronger financial industry and community,\u201d said John Little, president of Deposit Broker Services Inc. and a member of the award committee. \u201cHaving postponed the 2020 award we asked ourselves, \u2018What would Alex have done during the pandemic?\u2019 The answer was simple: inspire others. It is important for us to recognize someone who, over the last year, has inspired others and made a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nominations for the 2021 award, which is underwritten by CANNEX, will be accepted through June 30, 2021. Submissions for leaders and professionals in the banking and insurance industry will be evaluated based on contributions to innovation, technology, entrepreneurial spirit, collaborative leadership and mentoring. The award committee will announce the winner at an online event in September.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been an extraordinarily difficult year,\u201d said Michael Williams, president, Canadian Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (CAILBA), and a member of the award committee. \u201cWe look forward to maintaining Alex\u2019s legacy by giving this year\u2019s leadership award to an individual who helped the industry and our clients get through it.\u201d
