Alexander S. Melvin Leadership Award to Encourage Inspirational & Ethical Leadership in Financial Services

Committee Representing Canadian Financial Institutions & Associations Calls for Nominations for 2020 Award

With the health and safety of clients, employees, friends and families our first priority during the coronavirus pandemic, the Alexander S. Melvin Leadership Award Committee has decided to postpone this year’s award until September 2021. Nominations for individuals who demonstrate Inspirational & Ethical Leadership in Financial Services will remain open through June 2021.

Since its establishment in 2016, the Alexander S. Melvin Leadership Award has recognized individuals in the financial services industry who, through their inspirational and ethical leadership, have changed the industry for the better. The award is named for highly-respected industry leader and co-founder of CANNEX, Alex Melvin, who passed away in 2015.

The award committee, comprised of leaders from the banking and insurance industry, several of them previous winners of the award, is calling for nominations for the 2020 award for Inspirational & Ethical Leadership in Financial Services.

“In the midst of rapid change in the financial services industry and economy, leadership matters,” said John Little, president of Deposit Broker Services Inc., and a member of the award committee. “It is more important than ever to recognize individuals who embody Alex’s example through this award.”

Nominations for this year’s award, which is underwritten by CANNEX, may be submitted through June 30, 2020. The award committee will announce the winner in September. Submissions will be evaluated based on contributions to innovation, technology, entrepreneurial spirit, collaborative leadership, and mentoring in the industry.

“Alex’s inspirational and ethical leadership, genuineness, empathy, accountability, and desire to make the industry better for its professionals and clients, were key to his impact and enduring legacy,” said Michael Williams, president, BridgeForce Financial Group Inc., and a member of the award committee. “Through the award we hope to encourage a conversation in the industry about the importance of these values to achieving lasting impact and success.”
